Dr Fiona Denison (Director of Edinburgh Tommy's Centre, Consultant in Maternal and Fetal Medicine)

Dr Fiona Denison is a Reader in Maternal and Fetal Health and Honorary Consultant. She is the clinical lead for obesity services in NHS Lothian and with Dr Aedla, are the obstetric leads for the metabolic antenatal clinic. Dr Denison has an active translational research programme applying mechanistic insights from on-going work in the laboratory into human studies. Her main theme of research is optimising maternal and fetal health outcomes. Within this theme, her key research areas include maternal obesity and its implications for maternal and offspring health, devices and strategies to improve pregnancy and childbirth and translational imaging.

 

 

 

Dr Catherine Elliott (Consultant Obstetrician)

Catherine Elliott is one of the consultant obstetricians at the clinic.

 

 

 

Dr Niv Aedla (Consultant Obstetrician)

Niv Aedla is a consultant obstetrician with a special interest in maternal medicine.  She is a consultant at the Metabolic Antenatal Clinic at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh along with the multidisciplinary team.

 

 

 

Dr Alan Patrick (Consultant Phyiscian)

Alan Patrick qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 1981. He trained initially in various locations in Edinburgh and South-East Scotland, subsequently moving down to Liverpool in 1990 to complete his training. He was appointed to his first Consultant post at the Eastern General Hospital, Edinburgh in 1993 and moved to his current post at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in 1998.

 

 

Dr Alistair Milne (Consultant Anaesthetist)

Alistair Milne is a Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in obstetric anaesthesia, ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia and management of the obese parturient. Involvement in the anaesthetic input to the metabolic clinic since its inception.

 

 

 

Dr Alistair Simpson (Consultant Anaesthetist)

Alistair Simpson is a consultant anaesthetist. He is responsible for meeting patients in the clinic and discussing anaesthetic options with them and informing them of potential anaesthetic implications.

 

 

 

Elaine Jack (Research Midwife)

Elaine has been a midwife since 1995 and worked in various settings within NHS Lanarkshire and overseas in Australia.  She has been based in research since 2014 and have been the lead midwife at the Metabolic Antenatal Clinic since August 2018.
