Albert McKern Clinical Research Fellowship – Research Opportunity in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Are you an exceptional UK clinical trainee in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a passion for advancing research? The Albert McKern Clinical Fellowship offers a unique opportunity to obtain an externally-funded clinical training PhD fellowship. You will contribute to important research on pain and distress during pregnancy, exploring the impacts of adverse pregnancy on both mother and fetus, and how maternal health affects pregnancy outcomes.

This full-time role (40 hours/week) is an exciting chance to work with a dynamic team of researchers under expert supervision. We value collaboration, attention to detail, and the drive to develop your clinical and research skills. Hybrid working arrangements are available. Flexible start date; 12-month position.

Albert McKern Clinical Research Fellow

Albert McKern PhD aligned research post for a midwife with an interest in research

Are you a UK-registered midwife attracted to doing PhD aligned research to study pain and distress during pregnancy, encompassing but not limited to the impacts of adverse pregnancy on the mother, fetus and subsequent generations, and how pregnancy is impacted by adverse maternal health? This research programme was developed in consultation with the Scottish Government and Edinburgh Napier University, and is led by the Centre for Reproductive Health (CRH) at The University of Edinburgh.

The 3-and-a-half year post is full-time (35 hours per week); comprising a 3-year PhD research period, and an available 0.5 years at the end, to support approved activities that enable further career progression. However, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns.  We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. Start date is flexible.

Consider obtaining a career development fellowship to jumpstart your research programme. Options include external fellowships from organisations, like the Wellcome TrustUKRI, ERC, Cancer Research UK or CSO.

We will support competitive candidates every step of the way. If you’re pursuing an external fellowship, we will assist with your application and are committed to offering a welcoming environment once you secure funding. For newly independent fellows who will be starting their research group, this includes agreeing a clear pathway towards open-ended employment with the University, subject to a successful review.
