The CRH enjoyed a very strong presence at the RCOG Annual Academic Meeting (which also incorporates the Blair Bell Research Society Competition) in London on 25-26 January, 2024. Image Dr Lucy Whitaker presents her endometriosis research The two day meeting included keynote plenary lectures from leaders in their field, ‘hot topic’ sessions covering current issues, oral and poster presentations, and workshops tailored to the needs of academics at different stages of their training. All attendees were encouraged to take part in formal and informal networking opportunities as part of this thriving research community. Dr Kahyee Hor was selected to give an oral presentation on the effect of maternal obesity on perinatal outcomes in mice. Dr Scott Mackenzie won the Blair Bell Prize for his oral presentation reflecting his research on the use of pharmacogenomics to improve the management of chronic pelvic pain (he also won the Best Specialty Trainee presentation at the Scottish RCOG Annual Meeting in Dunblane the previous week for his work on predicting response to methotrexate in the management of ectopic pregnancy). The CRH enjoyed further success when Dr Mike Rimmer was awarded the William and Florence Blair Bell Fellowship at the meeting and Kevin Kuan was awarded runner-up in the RCOG scientific undergraduate submission (and winner of the Lindsay Stewart student award). We are delighted for Dr Jackie Maybin who has been appointed as the next President of the Blair Bell Research Society – a sign of her enormous talent and the huge respect she is held within the RCOG academic community. Well done to all participants. This was a comprehensive showcase of the exceptional talent and hard work carried out by various CRH research groups.
