Professor Critchley is Professor of Reproductive Medicine at the Centre for Reproductive Health. Her research career in menstrual disorders and abnormal bleeding spans more than 30 years.

Professor Dilly Anumba has been appointed Research Advisory Committee Deputy Chair. Professor Dilly Anumba is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Sheffield where he researches pregnancy complications such as hypertension, fetal growth restriction and stillbirth.

Wellbeing of Women is the UK’s only charity to focus on the reproductive and gynaecological health of women across their lives. Since its inception in 1964, the charity has invested more than £68 million in research to transform women’s health and wellbeing. Research is selected, monitored and evaluated by our Research Advisory Committee (RAC), comprising clinicians and researchers at the top of their field.

Professor Critchley’s three-year role will lead the charity’s research in its 60th year, alongside Professor Anumba, to ensure that only the highest calibre of research is being funded, in a year when the charity will offer £1.5 million in funding to scientists across the UK.

Despite making up over half of the UK’s population, the health of women has not received the attention it deserves. Wellbeing of Women’s research is working to change that. We want women’s health to be prioritised, using scientific rigour to achieve this goal.

We are thrilled to welcome our new appointments. Their experience, skills and expertise in women’s health will play a pivotal role in funding and inspiring the next generation of women’s health researchers. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Professor Williams for his enormous contribution to the charity and saving and changing the lives of women, girls and babies.

Janet Lindsay, Chief Executive of Wellbeing of Women

Professor Critchley replaces Professor David Williams, who served as Research Advisory Committee Chair between 2020 – 2023 and helped drive the research team’s success during the Covid-19 pandemic, where Wellbeing of Women confirmed the safety and effectiveness of Covid-19 vaccines for pregnant women and their babies.
