The CRH’s Ginnie Clark was invited to create and run a session with the students involved in the 2021/2022 cohort of the ‘Engagement for Impact’ PhD programme. This followed on from a similar session that CRH provided for the previous cohort, last year. Image Ginnie presented a combination of public engagement and press work that has been done at CRH from 2017 to the present day, providing examples, successes and learnings. CRH’s Professor Andrew Horne and Professor Rod Mitchell gave their own examples of public engagement activity and press work they have taken part in, and why they feel it is important to equip themselves with the ability to engage with audiences beyond the research world. A lively Q&A took place after the session. This four-year PhD programme (also referred to as PhD with Integrated Studies in Medical Sciences with Engagement), launched in 2020. It combines medical science and translational research with integrated and credited teaching in science communication, public engagement, patient involvement, data design and informatics.
