Fiona Denison, Professor of Translational Obstetrics at the University’s MRC Centre for Reproductive Health successfully led a 3 day workshop in Kampala, Uganda from 27 – 29 May resulting in 3 promising maternal health projects in the region. Image An interdisciplinary team of academics travelling from the University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University met with local and national stakeholders to explore potential collaborative research projects. The workshop held discussions with Makerere University, Kampala, one of the oldest and most highly ranked Universities in Uganda, the Ugandan Ministry of Health and a group of private, public and missionary hospitals. Funded by The University of Edinburgh, Global Challenges Theme Development Fund Award, the workshop was co-led by Professor Fiona Denison (University of Edinburgh), Professor Marc Desmulliez (Heriot-Watt University), Dr Ssekitoleko (Makerere University) and Professor Nyirenda (MRC – Ugandan Virus Research Unit) in Uganda. Over 50 African delegates attended including nurses, clinicians, biomedical engineers, social scientists, start-up companies and representatives from the Ugandan Ministry of Health.
