Four months

A few months after birth we will check in with families and collect some information about the baby’s early development and a little about the parents and home environment. This information will be collected by asking you to complete a questionnaire pack which will be sent to your home or completed online. A parent will be asked to fill out the questionnaires and return them to our researcher. This will also give us a chance to introduce you to our researcher who you will meet at the next appointment when your baby is 9 months old.

Essentials

For those babies who provided a nasal swab at the neonatal stage, we will ask to collect the same sample again.  A research nurse would arrange to visit you and your baby at home to collect the sample.

For information about how we process your personal data please access our GDPR Participant Information here.

What

The questionnaires will ask about the baby and also the parents and home life. Some of the things we would like to know about include:

  • Baby’s behaviour and personality
  • Baby’s feeding and sleeping habits
  • The parents well-being
  • The family’s background and where you are living and working just now

Where

You will not need to travel for this appointment as the questionnaires will either be completed online or be posted to your home address and returned to our researcher in a free post envelope which will be sent out with the questionnaires.

FAQ

What if I don’t understand a question?

If you are unsure about what any of the questions are asking please don’t hesitate to contact our researcher Ray. He will be happy to answer any of your questions. You can find his contact details above and they will also be sent out with the questionnaire pack.

What if I don’t think a question applies to my baby?

Most of the questionnaires will give you instructions about what to do in this situation and will include a ‘NA’ (not applicable) option which you can tick.

What if I don’t want to answer some of the questions?

You are not obliged to answer any of the questions if you would rather not. We want our participants to feel as comfortable as possible throughout the study. If you are unsure about a question or want to know why we are interested in the answer then please feel free to contact our researcher by phone, text or email.

Will I have to pay to return the Questionnaires?

We will send you a link to complete the questionnaires online or a prepaid envelope with the questionnaire pack so it won’t cost you anything to return them.

How long do I have to complete the questionnaires after I receive them?

We will send you the questionnaires about two weeks before the actual date of your babies 4.5 month appointment. It would be great if you could return them before this date.
